FireDefense Privacy Policy

FireDefense (“the app”) is published by Fire Defense Systems (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the app accesses, why, and how it is handled. We built FireDefense to keep your data on your device and to collect as little as possible.

The short version: FireDefense has no user accounts, shows no ads, and includes no third-party analytics or tracking. We do not sell your data.

Information the app uses

Location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s approximate location to show wildfires near you and to center the “Nearby Fires” map. To list nearby incidents, an area around your location is sent to public wildfire data services, including the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) and CAL FIRE, to retrieve fire information for your region. Your location is stored only on your device so the map stays centered between sessions. You can change or remove it in the app, and you can disable location access at any time in iOS Settings. We do not use your location for advertising or tracking, and it is not linked to your identity.

Camera. If you choose to scan a setup QR code, the app uses the camera only to read that code. Images are not saved or transmitted.

Local network and your valve. The app communicates with your FireDefense valve over your local Wi-Fi network to check its status and to open or close it. This communication stays on your network. The credentials used to control your valve are stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device.

Information we do not collect

We do not require an account or sign-in. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, or advertising identifiers. We do not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies.

Children’s privacy

FireDefense is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
